1. Name and purpose of the system

Benko Chess Rating System (BCRS) is the official internal rating system of the Benko Chess organization.

The purpose of the system is to track player progress over a longer period, motivate children and young players to compete regularly, and provide an objective ranking based on results achieved in official Benko Chess tournaments.

Note: BCRS is an internal Benko Chess rating system and is not directly connected to the official FIDE rating system.

2. Founder of the system

Founder of the Benko Chess Rating System (BCRS): IM, FT, NA Petar Benković

3. Eligibility

All players who participate in official Benko Chess tournaments are included in the Benko Chess Rating System.

The rating remains attached to the player and follows them through all subsequent official Benko Chess competitions.

4. Initial rating

Every new player receives an initial Benko Chess rating of:

1500 rating points

The initial rating is the same for all new players, regardless of age, sex or previous chess experience.

5. Rated games

Only games played at official Benko Chess tournaments are included in the Benko Chess rating calculation.

Friendly games, training games, privately arranged matches and online games outside the official Benko Chess system do not count toward the rating.

Requirement for a rated tournament

A tournament may be included in BCRS if it is organized by Benko Chess and announced in advance as a rated Benko Chess tournament.

6. Game scoring

Game resultValue for calculation
Win1 point
Draw0.5 points
Loss0 points

7. Rating calculation formula

The rating change is calculated according to the Elo principle.

R new = R old + K × (S − E)

Where:

Expected score

E = 1 / (1 + 10 ^ ((R opponent − R player) / 400))

8. K factor

The basic version of the Benko Chess Rating System uses a single value:

K = 40

This K factor applies to all players because it provides a simple, understandable and sufficiently dynamic system, particularly suitable for children and young players.

Benko Chess reserves the right to change the K factor or introduce additional K-factor categories in the future if needed.

9. Calculation after a tournament

The rating is published after an official Benko Chess tournament has been completed.

The calculation is based on all rated games a player played during the tournament. Each game is entered individually into the mathematical calculation, but only games from official Benko Chess tournaments are recognized.

The player’s new rating is published in the updated Benko Chess rating list after the tournament.

10. Benko Chess rating list

The official Benko Chess rating list contains the following information:

11. Player categories

12. Active and inactive players

A player who does not play any rated game for 12 consecutive months may be marked as inactive.

An inactive player keeps their rating and becomes active again after participating in the next official Benko Chess tournament.

13. Publication of the list

The Benko Chess rating list is published after a rated tournament is completed.

The new list takes effect on the date it is published on the official Benko Chess website or another official Benko Chess channel.

14. Interpretation and amendments

The Benko Chess organization has the right to interpret these regulations.

Benko Chess reserves the right to amend these regulations in order to improve the system, calculation accuracy and tracking of player development.
